Linda Mae Hoffmann

Biography

Linda Mae, daughter of Sylvester J. and Mathilda E. (Neuerburg) Thelen was born on January 5, 1924 on a farm north of Carroll, Iowa. She attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and later stayed home to help on her family farm.
On May 1, 1945 Linda was united in marriage with John F. Hoffmann at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Linda was a homemaker and the family made their home in Carroll and Crawford Counties. In 1975 Linda began working for G.E. in Carroll. She retired in 1989. Linda was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the G.E.T.S. Club. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with family, crocheting, sewing, knitting, cooking, baking, playing dice, card games and going camping.
After the death of her husband in 1998, Linda remained home in Carroll until 2009. Then, after a short stay in the nursing home, she returned home to live with her daughter, Geri. In January 2010 she was hospitalized and later became a resident of the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home. On February 26, 2010 she was transferred to St. Anthony Regional Hospital where she died at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 21 days.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four children: Cletus Hoffmann, Delbert Hoffmann, LaVeda Segebart and John Lynn Hoffmann; grandson Joshua Hoffmann; brother Gerald Thelen; sisters-in-law Marleen Thelen and Donna Thelen and brother-in-law Alfred Hoffman.
She is survived by her eight children: Melvin Hoffmann of Dundalk, MD; LaVern Hoffmann of Carroll; Rosemary and husband Earl Possehn of Ft. Dodge; Loras Hoffmann and wife Marlene of Arcadia; Daryl Hoffmann of Carroll; Lawrence Hoffmann and wife Char of Glidden; Geralyn Shirbroun and fiance Darwin Halterman of Bayard; Brenda and husband Jackie Cain of Elkton, KY; son-in-law Ernest Segebart Jr. of Denison; daughter-in-law Donna Hoffmann of Coon Rapids; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great granddaughter; siblings: Marcile Hoffman of Carroll; Norman Thelen of Carroll; Eugene Thelen and wife Kay of Ankeny; Sylvester Thelen and wife Kay of Templeton; Ralph Thelen of Davenport; Norbert Thelen and wife Virginia of Anita; Lawrence Thelen and wife Cecelia of Vail; Mary Ann and husband Allan Ludwig of Carroll and Lynette and husband Michael Schaffer of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Florence Thelen of Atlantic; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
