Biography

Marie Margaret, daughter of John and Magdalen Becker Koch, was born July 7, 1909 in Carroll County, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home.
On January 9, 1934, Marie was united in marriage with Henry G. Korwes at St. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. Five children were born to this union. The family lived in Carroll where Marie worked for a short time at Thompson Cleaners. They were members of St. Joseph’s Church and then Holy Spirit Church.
Marie enjoyed any type of arts and crafts activity including sewing, crocheting and knitting. She and her husband took pleasure in camping and fishing, especially when they could bring children of the family along. She also enjoyed flower gardening.
After the death of her husband in 1978 Marie continued to live in their home in Carroll. She was a very independent woman, living alone until she was over 100 years old. In February 2011 after a hospitalization she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home, Manning, where she died on Thursday, April 12, 2012. She was 102 years of age.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; three children James L. Korwes as an infant, Sharon Lee and husband Dennis Anderson, and Darrell Korwes and wife Shirley; daughter in law Marcella Korwes; grandson Jimmie Korwes and three sisters Anna Koch, Agnes Huegerich, and Clara Engelen.
Marie is survived by two children Beverly and husband Lauren Fuchs of Templeton and Don Korwes of Pacific Junction; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
