Morgan Leigh Maurath
August 6, 1968 - August 15, 2012
Morgan Leigh, daughter of Kelly and Linda (Greenlee) Sheer, was born August 6, 1968, at Carroll, Iowa. The family lived in Walcott and Bayard. In her youth, Morgan excelled in many sports, participated in 4-H and earned a scholarship when chosen as the Guthrie County Beef Queen. Morgan graduated from Coon Rapids-Bayard High School in 1987. Following high school, she received her Associates Degree as a small animal veterinary technician from Kirkwood Community College. Morgan lived and worked in veterinary clinics in Des Moines and Davenport, before settling back in Des Moines. For the last few years she worked part-time at the Ingersoll Animal Hospital. Morgan was a true animal lover and also enjoyed the technical side of her job.
On November 10, 2001, Morgan was united in marriage with Anton “Tony” Maurath at St. Pious Church in West Des Moines. Three sons were born to this union. Morgan enjoyed taking the boys to the zoo, parks, bowling and the state fair – anywhere she could watch them having fun. She was a huge fan of Michael Jackson’s music throughout her life. Morgan was a quiet person with a big heart who strived for perfection in all areas of her life.
Morgan died suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. She was 44 years and 9 days of age.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Carroll Greenlee; Josephine Greenlee South; John “Ace” and Isabelle Parker; and Howard and Betty Sheer.
Morgan is survived by her husband Tony Maurath and sons Carson (8 years old), Davis (5 years old) and Trenton (3 years old), all of Clive; parents Kelly and Linda Sheer; parents-in-law Elmer and Pauline Maurath of Oakley, KS; brother Jason Sheer and wife Elaine and their children William and Levi, all of Johnston; brothers-in-law Mitchell Maurath of Oakley, KS, and Thomas Maurath of Des Moines; sister-in-law Angela and husband Chad Christenson and their children Wade Wolfe and Tyler and Ash Christenson, all of Waukee; and many other relatives and friends.
