Allen Alfred, son of Alfred John and Elsie D. (Schroeder) Rix, was born on September 19, 1935 on the farm in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Al attended rural school in Audubon County and then moved to Manning with his family in 1947. He graduated from Manning High School in 1954. Al enlisted and served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959. On August 23, 1960 in South Dakota, Al was united in marriage with Beverly Pickel of Schleswig. The couple resided in Manning and three children were born to this union.
