He attended country school at Orange Center #5 and then worked on the family farm and did roadwork.   On April 14, 1927, Dee was united in marriage with Emma Ruth Ott at Carroll. Three children were born to this union. The family farmed south of Coon Rapids until 1932 when they moved to a farm south of Bayard. Dee and Emma eventually purchased this farm and Dee worked for neighbors, farming and doing carpentry and mechanic work. In 1972 they moved into Bayard. Dee cared for Emma before she died of Parkinsons disease in 1981.   Dee enjoyed baking, quilting, doing leather craft, crocheting and caring for his flowers and plants. He was a talented woodworker, completing numerous projects for family and friends. He received a kitten for his 80th birthday and Dee thoroughly enjoyed this faithful companion he called Miss Kitty or Grandma. Dee was a soft spoken, kind and considerate gentleman who enjoyed sharing his life stories.    On April 7, 2006, Dee entered Panora Rehab Center in Panora, Iowa, and died there on Friday, April 21, 2006, following a brief illness.
