Arlene Carter

Arlene Martha Carter, aged 87, of Manning, Iowa passed away on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 at Newport House in Omaha, Nebraska. Arlene was born April 29, 1939, in Westphalia, IA to Michael and Catherine (Blum) Schneider, the youngest of seven children. She attended public school, but later attended the Iowa School for the Deaf at the age of 14. Because she was so adept at reading lips, she only learned the basics of sign language.

On August 18, 1960, she was united in marriage to Merlin Carter in Wadena, Minnesota. They made their home on the family farm south of Manning, Iowa, where they were blessed with three children: Jerry, Sara, and Leah.

Arlene enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch and Crazy 8’s. She also enjoyed sewing and various crafts.

She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 7, 1977. She loved sharing with people about Jehovah God’s purpose for the earth soon to become a beautiful paradise! She loved reading the Bible to continue reinforcing those promises in her own life.

Arlene was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Alan Carter, her parents Michael and Catherine, brothers Ambrose (Bud), Jim, and Urban, and sisters Rita and Ella Mae.

She is survived by her husband, Merlin Carter of Manning, her brother Don of Colorado Springs CO, two daughters Sara (Carter) Reikofski and her husband Wade of Bellevue Nebraska, and Leah (Carter) Preul and her husband Ron of Arcadia, Iowa, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 2pm CST at the Denison Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1130 South Main Street, Denison Iowa. Zoom Information will be available.
