Arlene Heiman

December 3, 1920 — July 31, 2014

Arlene Catherine, daughter of Fred and Mary (Eischeid) Dalhoff, was born December 3, 1920 at Carroll, IA. She grew up in Halbur and attended St Angela's Academy in Carroll, graduating in 1938. As the oldest of eleven children, Arlene helped out at home until moving to Carroll in her early 20's and working at Jung's Bakery and the Vogue dress shop. Following the war in 1945, she met Elmer Heiman on a blind date. They were united in marriage September 10, 1947 at St Augustine's Church in Halbur. After a few years in Carroll they moved to the family farm south of Carroll where they raised four children. Arlene was active in the Holy Spirit Parish Ladies Guild and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. A ready volunteer, she often helped at church functions and in the school. Arlene was known as a skilled bridge player in several local card clubs and church tournaments. Elmer and Arlene had many local friends and often were a part of social gatherings for friends or family. In the earlier years of their 61 year marriage, they were often seen gliding across the dance floor. Arlene continued helping family by caring for her brother, mother, grandchildren and husband during difficult times. Arlene moved to Sunnybrook Assisted Living Home after the death of Elmer in 2008. She moved to the St Anthony Nursing Home in 2012, and she died there surrounded by family on Thursday, July 31, 2014. Arlene was 93 years, 6 months and 28 days of age.
