Arlene Musfeldt

November 11, 1918 — January 10, 2015

Arlene Josephine, daughter of John and Mary Ann (McElwaine) Lohmeier, was born November 11, 1918 on a farm near Manning, Iowa. She was the youngest of six children born at the end of WWI when her oldest brother was missing in action. Arlene grew up on the family farm on the edge of Manning and attended Manning schools graduating with the Class of 1936. On April 16, 1933 she was baptized at First Presbyterian Church in Manning. After completing her education, Arlene worked at various jobs in Manning. During this time, on April 18, 1937 by J. M. Ansorge, Arlene was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. On May 29, 1937 Arlene was united in marriage with Albert F. Musfeldt at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. F. W. Heinke. The couple made their home on the farm north of Manning. After they moved into town in 1949, Arlene worked at Hansen-Pahde and A & G Grocery for several years. Then she worked at Mueller Furniture Store for 22 years. Arlene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Ladies Guild. She was also an active member of the Rural Homemakers Club. In her retirement she enjoyed walking, most often with her husband, and sewing. Arlene and Albert celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1987. After the death of her husband on January 20, 2003 she remained in their home in Manning until her health began to deteriorate. She then moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in 2007. She died there on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 30 days. Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; husband; special uncle Joseph Lohmeier who lived with the family; three brothers Henry Lohmeier and wife Minnie, John Lohmeier and Raymond Lohmeier and wife Elsie; two sisters Louise Joens and her husband Henry and Alice Grau and her husband Fred W. She is survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
