"Minnie" (Husmann) Meyer, was born March 1, 1922, in rural Shelby County, Iowa. She grew up near Manilla and attended rural school. At age 11 Berdella's family moved to Manilla and she began attending Manilla schools. She graduated from Manilla High School with the Class of 1942. After high school Berdella attended normal training and taught country school for four years (Otto Creek Township #8 southeast of Schleswig and Hayes Township #6 east of Denison). She then worked for Calvin Peterson's Grocery Store (Tiny's) in Manilla for 29½ years. In 1975 Berdella began working for Veterinary Associates in Manning, where she remained until her retirement in 2005. Berdella was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla and the Weaver's Altar Guild. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. Everyone knew she made great banana nut bread and angel food cakes. Berdella moved to the Manilla Manor Nursing Home when her health began to fail in early 2009. She died there on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 5 days. Besides her parents, Berdella was preceded in death by her brother Alvin Meyer (Aldine); three sisters: Berniece Butts (John), Elizabeth Densmore (Leo) and Minnie Morgan (John); nieces and nephew: Donna Mullins and, in infancy, Wayne Mullins and Marilyn Meyer. She is survived by her sister Ora Mullins (Floyd) of Paton, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial donations in Berdella's honor may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or their Lutheran Youth Fellowship group.
