Bernard Herman, son of Joseph and Katherine (Renze) Greving was born October 29, 1925 in Carroll, Iowa. Butch was raised on the family farm southeast of Willey. He attended school in Willey and then started working of the family farm with his parents. On April 8, 1947 Butch was united in marriage with Edna Frances Ludwig at Mt. Carmel, Iowa. Three sons were born to this union. They made their home on his parents' farm near Willey in Carroll County. In 1972 Butch and Edna moved into Carroll. He owned and operated Greving Trucking and shelling, retiring in the late 1980s. Butch was a member of Holy Spirit Parish. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and playing cards. He continued his card playing after entering the Carroll Health Center in 2005. His wife remained in their home until her death in 2008. His health slowly declined over the years and he died at Carroll Health Center on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 20 days. Preceding Butch in death are his parents; wife Edna Greving; all of his sisters: Mary Dorpinghaus, Anna Danner, Johanna Hoffman, Bernadine Baumgartner and Josephine Hahn. Butch is survived by his three sons Frank (Carol) Greving of Carroll; Duane (Sue) Greving of Carroll and Melvin Greving of Lake View; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
