Bernice Churchill Grettenberg, 97, of Coon Rapids died Sunday, November 5, 2006, at the Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.Bernice, daughter of Mark Raymond and Grace (Kolp) Churchill, was born November 12, 1908, near Ralston, Iowa, in rural Richland Township. She spent her childhood in Minnesota and returned to Coon Rapids in 1922 with her parents and siblings. She graduated from the Coon Rapids High School in 1926.On January 4, 1930, she was united in marriage with Maurice Grettenberg at Carroll, Iowa, and lived and raised her family in Coon Rapids.Bernice was a member of the United Methodist Church for almost 70 years, taught Sunday School and arranged altar flowers at the church for 32 years. She was a member of the National Federated Club, and a Charter Member of the Iowa CU T.T.T. Society.Bernice is survived by sons James and his wife, Marlita, of Carroll, Iowa; Joel and his wife, Sandra, of Lake City, Minnesota; John and his wife, Nancy, of Coon Rapids; a daughter Judith Conlon of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; sister, Anne Textor of Coon Rapids; sisters-in-law Edrys Churchill of Corydon, Iowa, and Naomi Grettenberg of California; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Maurice in 1967; one brother, Justin Churchill; two sisters, Lois and Madelyn; and one granddaughter, Kari Grettenberg.
