Beulah Katherine, daughter of John and Inger Marie (Jensen) Henriksen, was born September 13, 1920 in Elko, MN. She graduated from Winthrop High School in 1938 then attended Bible College before graduating from Bethesda School of Nursing, St. Paul, MN in 1945. On January 26, 1946, Beulah was united in marriage with Holger Nielsen after his honorable discharge for the U. S. Army. They worked for a year in Minneapolis then served as parish workers in Monterrey, Mexico and San Antonio, TX until 1950 when Holger attended seminary in Blair, Nebraska. After his ordination they served in a number of communities where Holger was pastor, including San Juan, TX, Pass Lake, Ontario, Canada and then Jacksonville Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 15 years. During this time Beulah returned to nursing at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn (as a nurse, assistant director and then Director of Nursing) for over 20 years. She was a devout and caring nurse. She then worked for Home Care Plus in Atlantic. During this time Beulah also helped lead Jr. Mission Society, ladies circles and taught confirmation and Vacation Bible School. Holger retired in 1976 and they settled in Kimballton and became members of Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Beulah continued to work at Salem Lutheran Home and volunteered at the Kimballton General Store Museum and the Danish American Museum in Elk Horn. She continued to be active in Bible studies and ladies circle meetings as well as quilting at church. She also served on Altar Guild for many years. Eleven years after the death of her husband on June 9, 1989 Beulah moved to an apartment in Elk Horn. She continued her many activities and also volunteered at Bestemor's House and taught confirmation at church. She loved to share the gospel with young people. When Beulah could no longer live on her own she moved to Elm Crest Assisted Living in Harlan where she made many new friends and was dearly loved by the staff. On January 4, 2012 Beulah died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Elm Crest Assisted Living in Harlan at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 22 days.
