Beverly Jean Grundmeier, daughter of Arthur and Malinda (Erps) Lerssen, was born on November 18, 1939, in Manning, Iowa. She was baptized on March 24, 1940, at the Methodist Church in Manning. Beverly grew up in Manning, where her parents operated the Manning Hotel. She attended Manning schools and graduated with the Class of 1957. She was the youngest of three children, with an older sister, Loretta, and an older brother, Don.
Beverly began her working career at First National Bank in the summer of 1957, where she remained until 1975. On February 14, 1960, she was united in marriage to David Lee Grundmeier at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Four children were born to this union: Ivy, Patrick, Angela, and Jill. The couple made their first home in Aspinwall and in 1966 moved to Manning, where Beverly became an active and dedicated member of the community. She later worked at Puck Implement from 1983 until her retirement in 2005.
Beverly served on the MRHC Auxiliary Board for 30 years and was a longtime member of the Zion Ladies Guild, serving four years as its president. She also served on the mission board at Zion. Her family and her church family meant the world to her. She felt deeply supported and loved within her community and by her neighbors, and she was always thankful for those around her, making sure they knew just how much she appreciated them.
Beverly greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, especially playing cards — particularly Rummy — and she was well known for her baking, especially her beloved “little cookies.” She loved sitting in the sun and visiting socially with friends and family, always cherishing time spent with those she loved.
Beverly died on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Manning Regional Hospital at the age of 86 years, one month, and twelve days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Grundmeier, in 2019, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage; her sister, Loretta Friedman; her brother, Don Lerssen; brothers-in-law, Maurice “Bud” Friedman, Joel Grundmeier, Ed Reiter, Ron Ellsworth, and Ronald Schilling; her sister-in-law, Peggy Ellsworth; and her nephew, Larry Friedman.
