After his honorable discharge on September 30, 1991 he remained in Texas to be near his sons. In early 2000 Bill returned to Carroll to live.

Bill was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. During his active years Bill participated in softball, golf, bowling, and fishing. He always enjoyed visiting with family and friends and playing cards. Bill loved being with his children and grandchildren; following all of their activities.
