Clara Grim Betts

Clara Ruby, daughter of Charles Nolan and Hannah Katherine (Hinz) Chase, was born January 11, 1924 in DeWitt, Iowa. She attended school in DeWitt. She moved to Coon Rapids in 1940 to work for the Ray Miller family. Then in 1942 she was united in marriage with George Grim Jr. Three children were born to this union. Clara was a home-maker, however she also worked at a nurse aide at Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home and as a homemaker health aide in Carroll County. Clara was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids and Star Methodist Church. She was a fifty plus year member of Golden Link Rebeccah Lodge #10 in Coon Rapids. Over the years she belonged to the Rural Garden Club and H & H Club. She volunteered at Deal Elementary School for ten years. Her husband had died in 1976 and she was married to Glen Betts for a short time. She moved to Chillicothe, IL in 2000 to be nearer her daughter. While in Chillicothe she was an active volunteer in the church there. Clara died one day before her ninetieth birthday at the Heritage Health Nursing Home in Chillicothe, IL where she had been living since July. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; son Larry George Grim in 1971; 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Clara is survived by her two daughters Carol Christian and husband Joel of Peoria, IL; Connie Maxson and husband Leon of Creston; four grandchildren; Elizabeth Christian, Rachel Christian, Benjamin Christian and Larren Maxson and wife DeLee ; brother Walter Chase of Clinton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held for Clara on April 12, 2014 at First United Methodist in Coon Rapids.
