Clarence John, son of Henry and Sophia (Odendahl) Vonnahme, was born December 12, 1920, at Mt. Carmel, Iowa. After completing his schooling in Mt. Carmel and because his father had died, he helped his mother farm the family farm. On February 5, 1947, Clarence was united in marriage with Caroline Irlmeier at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton with Mgsr. Huesmann officiating. Six children were born to this union. The family lived on a farm three miles north of Manning where Clarence was engaged in livestock and grain farming. He also did some custom tiling in the area. They belonged to Sacred Heart Parish in Manning where Clarence served on the Parish Council during the building of the CCD Center. He enjoyed attending livestock auctions and was known for his ability to witch wells. After forty-five years on the farm, Clarence and Caroline retired and moved to Arcadia. They joined St. Johns Parish in Arcadia. During retirement, Clarence enjoyed playing cards. After knee surgery in early December 2005, Clarence started having other health problems. He died on Saturday, February 11, 2006, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 30 days. Preceding Clarence in death are his parents; 2 grandchildren Steven and Scott Wittrock, in infancy; 4 brothers: Fred Vonnahme; Carl Vonnahme; Ray Vonnahme and Ferdinand Vonnahme, as a youth; 3 sisters: Gertrude Vonnahme; Margaret Wieland and Rita Nepple; sister-in-law Bertha Vonnahme and 4 brothers-in-law: Art Wieland; Norbert Wieland; Al Nepple and Paul Kasperbauer.
