Dallas H. Hansen

April 28, 1921 — January 16, 2016

Dallas Howard, son of Hans and Florence (Sorensen) Hansen was born April 28, 1921 in Kimballton, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Audubon High School.  Dallas then enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1943.  He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 8th Army Air Force. In 1945 Dallas was honorably discharged and returned to Audubon.

On November 18, 1945 Dallas was united in marriage with Margery Pedersen.  Four children were born to this union.

Dallas and Margery lived on the family farm near Audubon and farmed there until he retired in 1983. They then moved to Elk Horn and he worked part-time for the City of Elk Horn mowing grass for the park.

He was a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church, American Legion in Elk Horn, VFW in Audubon and Farm Bureau. His number one passion was dancing with Margery.  He kept busy doing jigsaw puzzles, word games, watching Wheel of Fortune and competing in cornhusking contests on a state and national level. Dallas was an active member in the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He was an Iowa and Iowa State fan. He enjoyed volunteering at the Danish Windmill and Museum and had a good sense of humor. He appreciated all of his neighbors especially Dan and Garnett Petersen and the late Egon and Alice Simonsen. Dallas had the privilege of experiencing an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit WWII Memorial.

In May of 2014 Dallas became a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.  He died there on January 16, 2016 at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents, wife Margery Hansen in 2009 and sister Mildred (Milo) Andersen.

He is survived by his children Beverly (David) Steen of Elk Horn, IA, Barbara (Marc) Shelstrom of Lancaster, WI, Donna (Dennis) Muller of Defiance, IA and Ricky (Paulette) Hansen of Audubon, IA; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister Reta (Allan) Larsen of Elk Horn; sister-in-law Clara Pedersen of Elk Horn; brother-in-law Halvor Strandskov of MA; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
