Darwin Petersen

March 7, 1930 — January 10, 2015

Darwin Leon, the eldest son of Esra D. and Christine Andersen Petersen, was born March 7, 1930 in Racine, Wisconsin. As a young child he returned with his family to Elk Horn, Iowa. After graduation from Elk Horn High School in 1947 he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On March 17, 1951 Darwin was united in marriage with Wanda Jean Blohn. He worked various positions with Iowa Public Service Company (Mid-American Energy) for nearly 40 years. The family lived in a number of small towns and finally in Carroll for 31 years where Darwin worked and then retired. In his spare time, Darwin enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Darwin had a very special bond with his grandchildren and felt blessed to see his great granddaughter. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Carroll. During the last half of their retirement, Darwin and Wanda Jean lived in Tucson, Arizona. He died there on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the age of 84 years. Preceding him in death are his parents; younger sister Myrna Sahl and brother in law Garnet Blohn. Darwin is survived by his wife Wanda Jean Petersen of Tucson, Arizona; sons Sheldon (Donita) Petersen of Leesburg, Virginia and Curtis (Deester) Petersen of Sioux Center, Iowa; daughter Beth (Charles) Brower of Torrington, Connecticut; seven grandchildren: Mark Pannier, Kate Petersen Heyer (William), Ryan Pannier, Kristin Petersen Evans (Daniel), Cary Petersen, Jess Petersen and Andrew Pannier; great granddaughter Brooklyn Petersen; brothers Gary (Judy) Petersen of Osceola, Iowa and Marc (Carlene) Petersen of Omaha, Nebraska; sister in law Lorna Blohn of Cedar Falls, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
