David Grundmeier

March 17, 1935 — March 3, 2019

   David Lee, son of Marcellus and Evelyn (Frahm) Grundmeier, was born March 17, 1935 in Carroll, Iowa. He attended country schools in Carroll County and graduated from Manning High School in 1953. He then worked at Priebe and Sons in Manning until he entered the U.S. Army in 1957.


   On February 14, 1960 Dave was united in marriage with Beverly Lerssen in Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Four children were born to this union. Dave and Bev first lived in Aspinwall until 1966 when they moved to their present home in Manning on April Street. Dave worked with his father at the Grundmeier Garage in Aspinwall from 1960 to 1964. He then started working for the Manning Creamery Company and continued on there after Wells Dairy bought the company. In 1981 he returned to work with his father at Grundmeier Garage. From 1986 until retiring in 2002, Dave worked at Ag Processing.


   Dave was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was active on a variety of boards and councils. He enjoyed working on cars and fishing and being a blessing to his grandchildren.


   On Sunday, March 3, 2019 Dave passed away at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa.  He was 83 years, 11 months and 17 days of age.


   Dave was preceded in death by his parents; Bev’s parents Art and Melinda Lerssen; a brother Joel Grundmeier; and three brothers-in-law: Ed Reiter, Maurice (Bud) Friedman and Don Lerssen.


   Dave is survived by his wife Beverly Grundmeier of Manning; four children: Ivy Schimerowski and husband Tim of Council Bluffs; Patrick Grundmeier and wife Meg of Moose Lake, Minnesota; Angela Johnson and husband Ron of Carroll; and Jill Hovey and husband Mike of Ames; seven grandchildren: Nathan, Mitchel, Jacob, Jonah, Kylie, Samantha and Jake; siblings: Joanie  Reiter of Dunkerton; Peggy Ellsworth and husband Ron of Corley; Susan Schilling and husband Ron of Manning; Mark Grundmeier and wife Jerri of Belmond; three sisters-in-law; Alice Grundmeier of Storm Lake; Loretta Friedman of Manning and Jeanette Lerssen of Manning; and by many nieces, nephews, others relatives and many friends.
