Dewey Schilling

April 17, 1935 — May 21, 2019

Dewey Schilling, age 84, of Norfolk, Nebraska, and formerly of Manning, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, the Norfolk Veterans' Home. 


   Funeral service for Dewey D. Schilling, 84, of Norfolk will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk with Rev. Terry Buol officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, prior to the service. Dewey died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Norfolk Veterans Home.


   A funeral service will also be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, IA with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military rites will be held at the Manning Cemetery, Manning, IA on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.


   Born April 17, 1935, in Aspinwall, Iowa, Dewey was the son of John and Emma (Schroeder) Schilling. He attended grade school in Aspinwall. After high school, Dewey served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 14, 1958, to Jan. 12, 1960. He moved to Norfolk in 1966. Dewey had his own operation of corn shelling known as “Schilling Shelling” and went by the motto “you yell, we shell.” Dewey drove truck for Conoco Oil for 26 years, and then later for Vulcraft for 14 years.
   Dewey enjoyed fishing, hunting, prairie chicken hunting in western Nebraska and making his own whiskey and wine. He was a member of the Norfolk American Legion and Norfolk VFW.
   Survivors include a brother, Ronald (Susan) Schilling of Manning, Iowa, and numerous friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Alvin, Robert and Roy.
   Casket bearers will be Gordy Kyriss, Shane Siecke, Tony Siecke, Eric Siecke, Heath Henery and Randy Anderson.
