Donna Marie, daughter of Joseph and Marie (Blum) Goeres, was born June 15, 1924 at Defiance, Iowa.   She attended rural school in the Defiance area and worked at home until her marriage.  Donna played a large role in the family, as her mother had died when Donna was a child.

Her future husband used his airplane to court Donna.  On March 27, 1951, Donna was united in marriage with Theodore Fredrick “Tator” Gollobit at Defiance.  Four children were born to this union.  Donna was a busy, hard-working homemaker on the family farm near Manilla.  She was involved in all the farming activities, as well as keeping beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.  In 1987 she and Tator moved to Manilla, however they continued to help their son Bruce on the farm.  Throughout her life Donna maintained a strong Catholic faith and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Manilla.  It was important to her that her children continue the faith and she called them on Sundays to inquire “Did you go to church today?”  Donna also enjoyed her time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Donna suffered a heart attack at home on her 93rd birthday.  Six days later on June 21, 2017, she died at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Ted in 2008, brother Clarence Goeres, sister Marge Stessman and sister-in-law Virgie Goeres.

Donna is survived by her children: Peggy Gollobit, Manilla; Nancy Williams (Ron), Hartley;  Sharon Pitts (Jeff), Polk City; and Bruce Gollobit (LaNora), Manilla;  brother-in-law Dave Stessman (Janice), Defiance; 3 grandchildren: Kyle Williams (Julie);  Kayla Schlichte (Scott); Dillon Pitts; 6 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
