Doris M. Greve

March 21, 1930 — May 8, 2020

Visitation for Doris Greve, age 90, of Elk Horn will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Ohde Funeral Home in Kimballton. Doris’ family will not be present. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Doris Marie, daughter of Viggo A. and Anna D. (Walters) Jacobsen, was born March 21, 1930, near Nysted, Nebraska. She was baptized at the country church near her home. Her early years were spent near Nysted and then west of Omaha, before her family settled in Kimballton, Iowa in 1942.  After Doris’ freshman year of high school, Kimballton High School closed. She then attended and graduated from Audubon High School with the class of 1947. Following graduation, she worked in the Kimballton Telephone Office.

On January 27, 1950, Doris was united in marriage with Harvey Harold Greve at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. Four children were born to Doris and Harvey. They made their home and farmed Harvey’s homeplace in Monroe Township west of Elk Horn. Doris lived all her married life on the same farm with Harvey until his death in 2011.   Doris was able to remain on the farm until January of 2019. She then became a resident of Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, where she passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020, at the age of 90.

Doris was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was confirmed, and was active with the Ladies Circle. She was a wonderful homemaker. She loved baking and decorating cakes for birthdays, graduations and weddings for each of her kids and many others. Doris crocheted an afghan for each of her family members. Doris also enjoyed being a volunteer at the Museum of Danish America.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Harvey Greve; brothers-in-law Elliot (Elaine) Hoffman and Everett (Mabel & Virginia) Greve; sisters-in-law Dorothy (Victor) Hoogensen and Elaine (Kenneth) Christoffersen.

Doris is survived by four children: Paulette Kay and husband Charles Boldt of Audubon; Gerry Lynn Greve and wife Carrie of Elk Horn; Bryan Dean Greve and wife Janice of Elk Horn; and Dave Alan Greve and wife Diana of Harlan; 10 grandchildren: Jason  and Ann Boldt; Douglas and Mary Greve; Kevin and Amanda Greve; Sheila Partridge; Stephanie and Michael Donner; Erin and Kirk Andersen; Nicole and Jesse Coltrain; Anna Greve and fiancé Sean Boeke; Cyndi and Jacob Hartwig; and Andrea Greve; 18 great-grandchildren: Alyson, Emily and Ainsley Boldt; Shelbi and Staci Partridge; Madelyn, Andrew and Evan Greve; and Jesse and Sophie Greve; Kasey and Kipton Donner; Hadley, Brenlee and Kaedyn Andersen; Oliver and Sadie Coltrain; and Ada Hartwig; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Due to the outbreak of Covid 19, the last days of March and April have been a very heartbreaking time with no visits, but we are thankful for the wonderful souls helping at the nursing home and taking care of mom as their own. We are thankful for the nursing staff that came into Doris’s home during her declining years, especially Amy Malloy, as a dear family friend.
