Dwayne Charles, son of Elvie and Helen (Coil) Pittman, was born April 2, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised in the Panora, Iowa area. He attended country school in his elementary years where his mother was often the school teacher. Dwayne graduated from Panora with the Class of 1958.

He met Charlotte Burgett while she was working as a car hop in Guthrie Center. They were united in marriage on June 17, 1962 at the Methodist church in Guthrie Center.

Dwayne served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He was stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Gordon, Georgia; and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Dwayne worked at the Farmers Coop in Panora and worked his way up from coal truck driver to manager. In 1982 he became manager of the Manilla Grain Elevator owned by Lyle Gruhn. When this elevator was sold to the Coop, Dwayne worked at Farmland until he retired in 1997.

Dwayne enjoyed metal detecting, playing cards with friends and spending four winter months in Mission, Texas. He also enjoyed travel and making many fun and memorable memories.

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, Dwayne passed away at his home in Manilla, Iowa, from a recurring bout with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his son Matt Daron Pittman and his parents Elvie and Helen Pittman. Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife Charlotte Burgett Pittman of Manilla; a son Mark Charles Pittman of Manilla; a daughter Michelle Arlene Meeder and her husband Jamie of Blair, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Brittany Pittman and her fiancé Brett Oakes; Dilan Meeder, Kiley and Cassie Meeder; a brother Darwin Pittman and wife Nonie of Dallas Center, Iowa; and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
