Earl Putt

July 25, 1925 — October 21, 2013

Earl Louis "Sonny", son of Earl L. and Mary (Ressler) Putt, was born July 25, 1925 in Berks County, near Robesonia, Pennsylvania. He attended school near his home and at the early age of 13 years left home to worked as a hired man on various farms in the area and then for Armour & Co in Redding and Philadelphia. On May 2, 1946 Earl was united in marriage with Mary M. Marcy at Philadelphia. That same year they moved to Webster City, Iowa where he opened East Side Salvage. They adopted two children after they got settled. In 1962 the family moved to Westside where he opened Westside Auto Salvage which he ran for many years, retiring in 1990. In his spare time Earl enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife and family, golfing, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. In his early years, to make extra money, he was the boxing sparring partner of Jersey Joe Walcott.' He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia and the Westside Fire Department. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge and Westside Community Club, and served on the Westside Centennial Committee and Board of Directors of Auto Salvage (Recycling) Organization. Earl's wife Mary died in December of 2005. He remained in their home until he could no longer live alone. He then moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home where he died on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 26 days. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, son Carl Putt; brother Bob Putt and daughter in law Pamela Putt. Earl is survived by his son Richard Putt of Early; three grandchildren Theresa, Cassey and Jacob; five great grandchildren and sister in law Carolyn Putt of Tucson, Arizona, other relatives and friends.
