Edith Mae, daughter of Samuel and Hazel (Anderson) Lawson, was born October 27, 1925, in Gray, Iowa. She grew up in Gray and was baptized and confirmed at the Gray Methodist Church. Edith attended Gray public schools, graduating with the Class of 1943. Following her schooling, she remained at home and helped take care of younger siblings as well as doing some secretarial work at the school. On May 12, 1946, Edith was united in marriage with Reuben Stoberl. Five children were born to this union. They lived near Ross, Aspinwall and Botna on rented farms until purchasing their own farm southwest of Manning in 1955. After farming for over 30 years, they retired and moved into their home in Manning. Edith was a loyal member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Manning. She was also a member of the Tri-County Club and Garden Club. Edith volunteered many hours at the Hospital and Plaza Snack Bar. After the death of her husband on April 7, 1988, Edith remained in their home in Manning. Although she had various health problems since 1997, Edith continued to live a full and active life until her death at home late Tuesday evening December 12, 2006, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 16 days. Preceding her in death are her parents and husband. Edith is survived by her five children: Nancy and husband Calvin Stammer of Manning; Karen and husband Dr. Eugene Stoelk of West Linn, OR; Judy and husband Duane Reinke of Ankeny; Richard Stoberl and wife Darla of Missouri Valley; and Deb and husband Archie Warren of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren: Clinton Stammer, Chad Stammer, Nathan Stoelk, Kristina Stoelk and Rachel Stoelk; brother Roy Lawson and wife Lois of Audubon; two sisters: Grace and husband George Campbell of Audubon and Wanda Tigges of Carroll; three sisters-in-law: Irene and husband Herman Meislahn of Gray; Valeria and husband Louis Dreher of Audubon and Margaret Stoberl of Audubon; two brothers-in-law Lyle Stoberl and wife Mary of Stuart and Norbert Stoberl and wife Virginia of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
