Edward G. Anthofer

    Edward George, son of George J. and Alice (Skalla) Anthofer, was born December 5, 1928 at home, near Old Carrollton, Iowa.  He attended Annunciation Catholic School in Coon Rapids.   Following his schooling Ed worked for his uncle Bernard as a farm hand.  He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. After he returned home he was employed at Grettenberg Implement.     On November 9, 1954 Ed was united in marriage with Bernadine Brincks at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Willey, Iowa.  Twelve children were born of this union. In 1962 Ed and Bonnie purchased their family farm north of Coon Rapids, where he ran his grain and dairy farm.   He later owned and operated Anthofer Construction until he “officially” retired in 2000, however he continued to keep a close eye on the business.  He was a member of Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids and in his spare time he enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family.    Ed and Bonnie both moved to Thomas Rest Haven assisted living apartments in Coon Rapids in the fall of 2014, later moving to the nursing home as their health required.  Ed entered into the arms of our Lord surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 18 days.    Ed is preceded in death by his parents; George and Alice- brothers Leonard and Joe Anthofer; and sister Bernadine Reiling.    He is survived by his wife Bonnie Anthofer, Coon Rapids; 12 children: Dan Anthofer (Linda), Audubon; Diane Kastner, Denison; Deb Wilkens (Dan), Montour; Denise Fritzen (Stan), Beatrice, NE; Dean Anthofer, Coon Rapids; Donna Carpenter, Shenandoah; Doug Anthofer (Debbie), Brayton; Doris Johnson (James), Carroll; Daryl Anthofer (Michelle), Coon Rapids; Duane Anthofer (Sherri), Jefferson; Doreen Poehling (Chet), Lincoln, NE; Darla Fair (John), Shenandoah; 32 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; siblings: Clara Anthofer; Albert Anthofer (Lavonne); Teresa Linscheid (Alan); Irene Scott; Betty Hatton (George); Ron Anthofer (Rita) and Joyce Schmidt (Ken); other relatives and many friends.
