Elinor Olsen

Elinor Christine, daughter of Henry and Eva (Marcusen) Mortensen was born November 13, 1934 in Elk Horn, Iowa. She graduated from Elk Horn-Kimballton High School in 1953. On June 24, 1955 Dick Olsen and Elinor were united in marriage at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. They had three sons: Steven, Pat, and Darin. Elinor worked with Dick at Elk Horn Brand Eggs, Inc. and the Marne Elk Horn Telephone Company. She also worked as a travel agent out of her home. Elinor was an avid bowler and active in the Iowa Women's Bowling Association. In 1988, Dick and Elinor moved to Lenox, Iowa where she was a homemaker. They moved back to Elk Horn in 1997 after Dick retired. The couple enjoyed traveling and became snowbirds during the winter months of their retirement, traveling to Arizona. She was a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Elinor was an active volunteer at the Danish Immigrant Museum. She was a good cook and an avid college and Pro sports fan. Her family and friends will always remember her big smile, for she was known for it. In July 2014 Elinor's health began to decline. She became a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home on July 7, 2015; she died there on Monday October 5, 2015 at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 22 days. Preceding her in death are her husband Dick Olsen of 58 years and her parents. Elinor is survived by her children Steven (Nora Cable) Olsen of Maxwell, IA, Pat Olsen of Omaha, NE and Darin (Ellen) Olsen of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren Jeremy Olsen of Des Moines, IA, Karlie (Shane) Pote of Woodward, IA and Katrina (Josh Battisti) Olsen of Janesville, WI; sisters Sandra (Jerry) Moore of Pittsville, WI and Rae Woodrum of Bellevue, IA; brother Greg Thompson of Maquoketa, IA and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
