Ella Weitl

August 31, 1921 — August 17, 2013

Ella Regina, daughter of Ben and Amelia (Miller) Riesberg, was born August 31, 1921 on the family farm in Carroll County, near Carroll, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm with her large family and attended Holy Angels in Roselle, graduating from eighth grade. Ella helped on the farm until she was united in marriage with Alfred Weitl on October 1, 1940. They were married at Holy Angels Church in Roselle. Ella and Alfred made their home on a farm in Audubon County from 1940 until 1966 when they moved to their present home west of Templeton. Ella was a homemaker and active farm wife. They raised a lot of chickens and she used the eggs in her baking, which she loved to do. She also used the milk from their cows for her large family and in her baking. She cultivated a large garden and canned the produce, especially apples. In addition, she grew gladiolas for use in the church. Her garden became a park for her kids and grandkids with many interesting vegetable and flower beds. Everyone fondly remembers her delicious buns'. Ella and Alfred were members of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton and Ella was a member of CD of A. After the death of her husband on July 4, 1995, Ella remained in their home until she could no longer live at home. In 2008 she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home where she died on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the age of 91 years 11 months and 17 days. Besides her parents and husband, Ella was preceded in death by her son Allen Weitl in 2010; brothers: Herbert (Mary) Riesberg, William (Marie) Riesberg, Eddie Riesberg and Albert Riesberg in infancy; sisters Irene Riesberg and Laura (Andy) Hoffman; brothers in law Merle Heider and Teddy Langel and son in law Bengi Havermann.
