Evelyn D. Rieff, 90, died on Holy Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Wesley Acres Nursing Home in Des Moines, Iowa. The funeral service for Evelyn will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 9, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa, conducted by Father Timothy Johnson. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Frances Rieff of Auburn, NE; nieces and nephews, Jeanne (Pat) Engles of Auburn, NE; John (Heidi) Rieff of Plano, TX; Margaret (Mike) Glasscock of Brimfield, IL; Michael Rieff(Jeani) of Cedar Rapids, IA and Steven Rieff (Judy) of Onawa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul (Mary) Rieff and Carl Rieff; sisters, Lucille (Cully) Freiman and Marie Rieff. Evelyn was born on July 19, 1921 in Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Albert D. and Mary A. (Beisch) Rieff. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul School and graduated from St. Angela's Academy in May, 1938. She never married, but was a lifelong companion to her best friend and sister, Marie, as the two of them moved to Chicago and embarked on life's journey. Evelyn enjoyed a long and satisfying career as an executive secretary. She and Marie traveled the world, enjoying the sights and fine restaurants wherever they went. Evelyn was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Chicago. After her retirement, Evelyn remained in Chicago until her health began to decline, and eventually moved to Des Moines, IA in 2006. Evelyn loved family, traveling, music, and sewing. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the Staff at Wesley Acres, especially Amber, for their kindness and assistance to Evelyn. They also deeply appreciate the compassion and care Wesley Life Hospice gave to both Evelyn and the family during this difficult time, especially Jane, Cindi and Chaplin Elaine. Memorial donations may be directed to Wesley Life Hospice in Evelyn's name.
