Frances Davis

A memorial service for Frances Davis, age 89, of Bayard, will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. Visitation will be held at Ohde Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

Frances Lou, was born on February 22, 1929, on the farm in Tuttles Grove, Guthrie County, Iowa. She was the third daughter of Charles and Maud (Pingrey) Cretsinger.

Frances attended country school at Orange #4, until the seventh grade when she transferred to the Coon Rapids Public Schools, where she graduated in 1946. She then taught country school in Guthrie County at Orange #2 and Union #3. Later, Frances taught Kindergarten for 2 years in Kobe, Japan. She renewed her teaching certificate by attending Drake University.

On November 20, 1948, Frances was united in marriage with William “Bill” Davis at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Two children, Rebecca and Charles, were born to this couple. When the Korean War broke out, Bill joined the U.S. Army and they became a military family, living in many places and making many friends. After Bill’s honorable discharge, they returned to Coon Rapids and owned and operated a sundry store for 16 years. Frances and Bill then moved to Colorado where they owned a liquor store. Bill passed away in 1989 and Frances remained in Colorado until 1999, when she moved to Fremont, Nebraska to be closer to Rebecca. In 2017, Frances returned to Iowa to be closer to Charles.

Frances enjoyed being with her family, gardening, cooking, reading and occasionally going to the casino.

On Friday, March 9, 2018, Frances passed away at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa, at the age of 89 years.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three infant children, a daughter Rebecca McClain, and two sisters.

Survivors include: a son Charles (Shelly) Davis; a son-in-law Terry (Linda) McClain and Grandchildren: Wyatt Davis, Randy (Heather) Davis, Lee Ann (Bill) Esch, and Mark McClain; Great-grandchildren: Gabrielle & William Esch, Melanie and Aubrie Davis; a brother Franklin Cretsinger; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
