   It is with great sadness that the family of Frances Rose Herron Mendenhall announces her passing on February 6, 2018, peacefully in her home in Ankeny, Iowa, at the age of 64. A native of Coon Rapids, Iowa, she graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1972.  She then attended AIB School and graduated in 1974. Upon graduation, Fran began working at the Des Moines VA Hospital where, after 37 years, she retired as the Executive Secretary of the Director of the VA Hospital. In May of 1977, Fran married Sterling Mendenhall.   
   Fran was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was always willing to help out her family in any way she could. She also enjoyed spending time, not only with family but also with her Farm Babes, Maui Mamas, her VA Group and going out with her GNO Gals. While enjoying her retirement years, Fran traveled and proudly became a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at the Coon Rapids American Legion Post 357.   
   Fran was preceded in death by her parents Beryl A. and Margaret (Whalley) Herron. She is survived by her seven siblings: Arlene Herron-McDaniel of Coon Rapids; Neva Herron-Laborde of Winnebago, Minnesota; Henry Herron of Coon Rapids; Zoeanna Herron Jacobsen of Coon Rapids; Howard Herron of Coon Rapids; Diana Herron Blair of Boone; and Harley Herron of Coon Rapids; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.   
   Fran was very passionate about the care of Disabled Veterans. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the United States Disabled Veterans, to honor Fran in life and death.
