Franklin Mohr

April 20, 1927 — September 8, 2019

   Franklin Earl, son of George and Christina (Sonksen) Mohr, was born April 20, 1927, in Manning, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Franklin was a 1946 graduate of Manning High School. He was drafted in September of 1946 into the US Army, serving in Japan during World War II as security patrol. Franklin was drafted a second time for the Korean War in 1951 where he served guarding trains loaded with supplies. Franklin received various medals, including two Bronze Stars, and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1953. After his service to his country Franklin returned to Manning and began work for Wiese & Sons.
   Franklin met Arlene Mohns in September of 1953 at the skating rink in Manning. They were engaged on the night of her high school graduation. On October 3, 1954, Franklin and Arlene were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. It was the end of a wonderful year and the beginning of a fantastic life together by the grace of God. Nine children were born to this union. They lived on a farm north of Manning where they were dairy and grain farmers.
   Franklin was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Church was very important to Franklin. He served his church as an elder, president of the congregation, Sunday school superintendent, Christian Education Chairman, President of district Sunday School Teachers organization, and taught bible class for 18 years. He also was a member of Walther League and Lutheran Layman’s League. Franklin served as director and president of the Crawford County Pork Producers, president and announcer for the Manning Easy Riders Saddle Club, Crawford County Farm Bureau board member, and a district delegate of Mid-America Milk Producers. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served on the Carroll County 4-H Council for over 30 years and was a leader of the Manning Win-or-Grin 4-H Club for 47 years. Franklin served as Horse, Rabbit and Dairy Superintendent at the Carroll County Fair. Finally, he was elected to the Carroll County Fair and Iowa State Fair Hall of Fame. Franklin loved and enjoyed people of all ages. His wife and family were very important to him. He proudly and frequently talked about his children and grandchildren and would always let people know how many grandchildren and great grandchildren he had.
   On Sunday, September 8, 2019, Franklin passed away at his home in Manning, Iowa. He was 92 years, 4 months and 19 days of age.
   Franklin was preceded in death by his parents George and Christina Mohr, brother Robert Mohr, his in-laws Herman and Bernice Mohns, son Michael Mohr, daughter-in-law Kathy Mohr, son-in-law Clint Grote, great-grandson Maddox Snyder, sisters-in-law Myra Mohr, Joan Mohr and Lola Mohr and brother-in-law Terry Mishler.
   He is survived by his wife of 65 years Arlene Mohr of Manning; eight children: Steven Mohr of North Dakota; Deborah (Bill) Ranniger of Manning; Daniel (Sharon) Mohr of Westside; Rebecca (Ken) Eischeid of Manning; Jonathan (Lisa) Mohr of Halbur; Elizabeth (Ben) Booth of Manning; Mary (Chris) Greving of Manning; and Michelle Prichard (Matt Danner) of Carroll; grandchildren: Katie (Matt) Kunasek; Tyrel Mohr; Kirk Mohr; Brandon Ranniger (Brooke Reglein); Ashley (Bryan) Moore; Amy (Ryan) Winkelman; Alison, Angela, Nathan, Amanda, Mike (Kate) and Ryan Ranniger; Beth (Greg) Holdener; Katherine (Joe) Overstreet; Stephanie (Dave) Malone; Dane (Jenny) Mohr; Carrie (Scott) Diesburg; Courtney, Casie, Cody and Cristyn Eischeid; Jill (Benet) Snyder; Travis (Rachel) Mohr; Bryce Mohr; Paige (Johnny)Willis; Justin, Taylor, and Jared Mohr; Brooklynn, Andrew and Trevor Booth; Lauren and Andrew Greving and Layne and Aubrey Prichard; Great-grandchildren:, Michael, Jonathan, Audrey, James, Brayden, Autumn, Haylee, Mason, Colin, Lucas, Sophie, Emily, Evelyn, Sloan, Reis, Aurora, Eric, Ryder, Kolbie, Elora, Deklyn, Elsie, Truman, Hudson, Lena, Kayden, Brynlee, Ryker and Harper; siblings: Russ (Virginia) Mohr, Allen Mohr, Louise Mishler and Sandra (John) Holtz and brother-in-law Charles (Tracey) Mohns.
