Gary R. Mundt, son of Delmar and Loyola (McCullough) Mundt, was born February 6, 1943 in Manilla, Iowa, the oldest of nine children. He graduated from Manning High School in 1961. Following a few years of academic and work-related activity in the Midwest, he relocated to Colorado in 1967, where he spent the remainder of his life. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver and later his master’s degree in business from Regis College in Denver.
Gary was united in marriage with Linda Sommer on October 18, 1968. They made their home and raised their family in Colorado. Gary enjoyed music, especially Bluegrass, Folk and Irish genres. He was a voracious reader, skillful at drawing and a lifelong car aficionado. He also enjoyed traveling, both domestic and international, with a particular fondness for Ireland and Irish genealogy. In addition, he made numerous trips to Italy with extended family and to Nicaragua with his grandchildren. Spending time with his grandchildren during his retirement years was of great enjoyment for him.
Gary died suddenly and unexpectedly on June 23, 2016 at Longmont, Colorado. He was 73 years of age.
Preceding him in death are his parents; mother in law Norma Sommer; and sister in law Jayne Sommer.
Gary is survived by his wife Linda (Sommer) Mundt of Longmont, CO; son Michael Mundt (Heather) and their children Brody and Colin Mundt of Longmont, CO; daughter Kelly Mundt of Omaha, NE; father in law Melvin Sommer of Vail, IA; siblings Barb Brusegaard (Dick) of Ft. Mohave, AZ, Julie Houdeshell (Don) of Sun City, AZ, Jeanne King of Grand Island, NE, Marci Guzman (Lou) of Surprise, AZ, Randy Mundt (Deanne) of Mitchellville, IA, Dick Mundt (Beth) of Manning, IA, Lori Potthoff (Brian) of Manning, IA and Alan Mundt (Joann) of Dawson, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
