Gayle Schleisman

    Gayle Margaret, daughter of Leonard J. and Edna E. (Wille) Schleisman was born December 31, 1940 in Carroll, Iowa.  She was the second child of seven to be born.  Gayle attended St. Angela Academy her freshman year in 1955; the school became Kuemper Catholic High School where she graduated in 1959.  Gayle graduated from Stewart’s Beauty School in Sioux City in 1960. She was a beautician in Carroll during all of her working years, and ran her own beauty salon, Smart Set Salon, for most of those years until her retirement in 2013. 

    Gayle was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Carroll Chamber of Commerce where she was the president for one year.  She enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, especially the Chit Chat Bridge Club, and an occasional evening with the slot machines. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority who would make peanut brittle every year during the holiday season and sold it as a fundraiser. Gayle was a family-oriented woman; she opened her home to her siblings and their families whenever they would visit Carroll and Lake City.  She was considered the rock of her family and was always there for them. 

     Gayle died on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines due to a gradual failing heart at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 5 days.

     Preceding her in death are her parents Leonard and Edna Schleisman; brother Stewart in infancy; brother-in-law Russell Fallstad; nephew Gregory and his wife Kelli and their daughter Erin.

     Left to cherish her memory are her siblings Barb Fallstad of Minnetonka, MN, Thomas (Janice L.) Schleisman of Omaha, NE, John (Janice M.) Schleisman of Madison, WI, David Schleisman of Plymouth, IN and Mike (Judy) Schleisman of Lake City; nieces and nephews Kim (Tim) Meyer of Baraboo, WI, Russell Fallstad (Mary Hurst) of Lewisburg, WV, Jill Fedor of Milwaukee, WI, Timothy (Linda) Schleisman of Omaha, NE, Ryan (Bre) Schleisman of Fort Collins, CO, Jennifer (Kelly) Bruning of Aurora, CO, Scott Schleisman of Des Moines, Jennifer Doty of Ogden, Mike (Robyn) Doty of Nevada and Alysa Faulkner of Plymouth, IN; 21 great nieces and nephews; 2 great great nieces and nephews; many other family and friends.
