     Geneva Maxine, daughter of Carl C. and Grace (Matheny) Atha, was born May 23, 1928, at Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Des Moines. Maxine then worked as a sales clerk in a drugstore and hardware store.   She was united in marriage with William Banks at Des Moines in May of 1946. One daughter was born to this union. On August 14, 1950, Maxine was united in marriage with Elwood Gall in Des Moines. Two children were born to this union. They made their home in Camp Dodge and Maxine stayed at home until the children were in school. She then worked at Younkers until her retirement in 1982. The couple remained at Camp Dodge until Elwood retired in 1988. Maxine and Elwood then moved to Coon Rapids and made their home on Fifth Street. Elwood died on Friday, October 4, 2002.The following year Maxine moved to an apartment on Bridge Street.      Maxine was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering at New Hope Village Bargain Shop, the Red Cross, Thomas Rest Haven and Congregate Meals. She also enjoyed going to the casino, sewing, crocheting and listening to Western music.       Maxine never missed a chance to travel to visit her family and attended many Coon Rapids-Bayard sporting events.      Due to failing health Maxine became a resident of the Thomas Rest Haven nursing home in Coon Rapids the week before her death. She died there on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 20 days. |     Besides her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by son Thomas Gall; brother Gerald C. Atha; two sisters Marguerite Louise Hartnett and Muriel Beatrice Beaty; and great granddaughter Emma Samson.      She is survived by two daughters Linda and husband Larry Muehlenthaler of Lampe, MO, and Jane Heller of Urbandale; seven grandchildren: Rhonda and husband Godfrey Makundi of Kansas City, MO; Shannon and husband David Wright of Kansas City, MO; Heather and husband Jim Samson of Punta Gorda, FL; Jessica Heller of Urbandale; Thomas Gall Jr. of Madrid; Angela Gall of Des Moines; William Gall of Des Moines; ten great grandchildren; sister Juanita Cooley of Corning; best friend Glen Betts of Coon Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
