Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manning, Iowa
Gerald Leo Schulte, son of Edgar and Elva (Ludwig) Schulte, was born May 12, 1939, in Carroll, Iowa. The oldest of 12 children, Gerald grew up on the family farm north of Breda. He graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1957. For a short time, Gerald worked at Farner-Bocken in Carroll and in Des Moines as a claims adjuster. He then attended barber college in Sioux City and apprenticed in Glidden and Halbur.
On August 20, 1960, Gerald was united in marriage with Margaret Ann "Peg" Neil at St.'s Peter and Paul in Carroll. Three children were born to this marriage. The family made their home in Manning where he purchased the Jensen Barbershop in 1961. Gerald operated Schulte Barbershop until June of 2017 when Alzheimers Disease forced him to retire. He then moved to Sunnybrook in Carroll until November of 2020 when he became a resident of Manning Senior Living.
Gerald was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning and the Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a boy scout leader and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Those who sat in his barber chair, would certainly recall his fondness for camping, boating, skiing, fishing in Canada, working on cars, and spending time with his family.
On Good Friday, April 2, 2021, Gerald passed away at Accura Healthcare of Manning at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 21 days.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Shirley Ann Schulte and Linda Pierce; a brother John Schulte; a brother-in-law James (Judy) Neil; and a sister-in-law Peg Miltner; Peg's parents George and Agnes Neil.
