Gladys Russell

July 1, 1921 — October 28, 2013

Gladys Violet, daughter of William Muddiman and Alice Needle, was born June 1, 1921 in Northampton, England. She proudly served in the British Army. On May 25, 1946, Gladys married Morton B. Russell of Bayard, Iowa, in Northampton, England. They met during World War II at a dance. Gladys and Morton lived in England, Germany and Omaha, NE. After her husband retired they moved to Abilene, TX then Arkansas to be nearer all their children. Morton died in 1977 and Gladys went to live with her daughter and husband in Texas. Gladys loved to dance and spent many years at the Plano Senior Center participating in line dancing, swing dancing, and her senior dance group performed in a Plano Senior High School play. Gladys loved people and always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed going on cruises, shopping, and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gladys loved Jesus and attended Prestonwood Baptist Church. She will be truly missed. Gladys passed away in her sleep into the loving arms of her Savior on October 28, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Plano, Texas. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents William Muddiman and Alice Needle; brothers Fred and Bill Needle; Jack and Leslie Muddiman; husband Morton B. Russell; son Jack Leslie Russell. She is survived by her children Robert Russell and wife LaRee of West Des Moines; Diana Koon and husband Kenneth of Plano, TX; Barry Russell and wife Joy of Bolivar, MO; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; Barbara Muddiman of Harpole, England; many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives. Reverend Charlene Wolfe, United Methodist Church, Bayard, officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Kyle Koon, Kody Koon, Brian Russell, Michael Russell, Mark Russell, and Dustin Russell. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm, Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas, and Friday, November 1, 2013 from 6 - 8 PM at Ohde Funeral Home in Bayard, Iowa. Visitation will resume at 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home in Bayard. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Ohde Funeral Home, 402 3rd Street, Bayard, Iowa.
