Gloria Jean, daughter of Henry Joseph and Lucille (Kisling) Lahr, was born August 22, 1939 at Manilla, IA.  She grew up there and graduated from Manilla High School in 1958.  On May 1, 1959 Gloria was united in marriage with Arden Hargens at Omaha, NE.  Five daughters were born to this union.

The family lived in Vail and moved to Manilla in 1978.  Gloria and Arden later moved to Earling in 2009.  Gloria was a busy homemaker and mother, however later in life she went to work as a certified Med Aide at Eventide in Denison.  She subsequently worked at the Manilla Manor and Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.  Following her retirement she volunteered at area nursing homes and also worked at IKM softball games in Irwin.  Gloria was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla and active in the Weaver’s group.  She was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Cubs fan.  Gloria enjoyed reading, preserving garden produce and following politics.  Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was fiercely loyal to all her family and friends.  Gloria loved many pets in her life, including her current Sheltie dogs, Kea and Kia.

Following a sudden illness Gloria was hospitalized at Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluff, IA.  Only four days later she died there on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at the age of 77 years and three months.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jerome Lahr and Lowell Lahr.

She is survived by her husband Arden Hargens of Earling; daughters: Melodie Boell (Duane), Manilla; Jamie Hanson (Lance), Manilla; Julie Erskine (partner Mark Smith), Plano, TX; Jill Ferry (Darin), Portsmouth, IA; Jodi Hargens, Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; siblings: Kathy Meehan (Roger), Westside; Diane Lahr, Manilla; Gaylord Lahr (Bonnie), Westfield; John Lahr, Norwalk; other relatives and friends.
