Grace Evelyn (Evie) Jones

   Grace Evelyn (Evie), daughter of Charles and Verna May (Dally) Wright, was born May 26, 1932, in Greenbrier Township, near Jefferson, Iowa. She grew up at Jefferson and attended school there. Evie then worked in a factory in Des Moines.

   On November 17, 1951, Evie was united in marriage with Leonard Everett Jones in Des Moines. Four children were born to this union.  They lived in Gowrie for 21 years, where Leonard worked as a livestock buyer and farmed. In 1972 Leonard sold his farm and businesses to his brother due to health concerns and the couple moved to Manilla. Leonard then entered the insurance business and 6 months later formed a partnership with Delpha C. Olson. Upon Mrs. Olson’s death Leonard and Evelyn formed Olson Insurance Agency, Inc. Evie also worked for a short time for Charlie and Loretta Schram at Schram’s Market. The couple retired in the early 1990s. 

   Evie was a member of the United Church of Manilla, American Legion Auxiliary, Friendly Farmers’ Club, and Manilla Area Historical Association. She enjoyed playing bingo, working with her flowers, volunteering at the nursing home, feeding the neighborhood cats and spending time at Blackhawk Lake.

   Evie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard in 2000, two sons Robert Jones and Lennie Jones, four sisters: Marie (Marvin) McVay, Nettie Conner, Bertha (Dick) Aulenbacker, Dorothy (Chet) Keeley; and her brother Johnny (Norma) Wright.

   She is survived by two daughters Phyllis (Roger) Groth of Ida Grove and Sharon (Carl) Blume of Schleswig;  eight grandchildren: Joel (Amanda) Groth, Jerry (Amanda) Groth, David Groth, Dennis Groth, Rachel Pollard, Carl Blume Jr., Matthew Blume and special friend Amber Arbegast, Kayla Blume and special friend Matt Rietz; thirteen great-grandchildren: Jackson, Jace and Jordan Groth; Charlie and Ayden Pollard; Shaylynn, Bailey and Zander Blume; Teagan, Jase and Emmett Blackman; Tynan, Niyalla and Keyanna Rietz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
