Harold Fowler

November 4, 1928 — May 26, 2015

Harold Howard, son of Elvin and Gertrude (Lampart) Fowler, was born on November 4, 1928 in Jefferson, Iowa. His family moved to Lohrville, Iowa when he was young. Harold attended and graduated from Lohrville High School in 1945 and then joined the Navy. He served through WWII, Bay of Pigs, Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. Harold was a company commander at the Great Lakes Naval Base, III. On September 23, 1955, Harold and Irene (Kasperbauer) were united in marriage and would have had their 60th anniversary this coming September. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family, word and picture puzzles, playing cards with his friends, watching westerns, ballroom dancing with Irene, and playing with his pets. Harold retired in 1969 in San Diego, California. He then returned to Carroll, Iowa and began working for Ocoma Foods. Harold also worked for Bierl's Furniture and Traush Industries. He was a member of the Carroll American Legion, VFW, and the FRA Association. On May 26, 2015, Harold died at the Carroll Health Center at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 22 days. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a son Larry Fowler; sister Doris Larson; sister-in-law Rita Morris; two brother-in-laws Charles Morris and Anthony Grote and a daughter-in-law Pam Paul. He is survived by his wife Irene of Carroll, IA; two daughters Ruth (Kevin) Dillavou of Carroll, IA and Kelly (Bill) Vaughn of Nashua, IA; grandchildren Troy Dillavou of Carroll, Eric Dillavou of Carroll, Amy Dillavou and fiancé Richard Lau of Carroll, David (Laney) Paul of Mankato, MN, Michael (Courtney) Fowler of Praugue, MN; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Stacey of Wall Lake, Kasey Lau of Carroll, Harmaney Conrad of Fort Dodge, IA, Cameron Fowler of Praugue, MN; sister-in-laws Freda (Russell) Axman of Dedham and Sharon Grote of Fonda, IA and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
