Helen Lee David

February 20, 1933 — October 13, 2016

Helen Lee, daughter of Wendel G. and Helen (Berg) Hacker, was born February 20, 1933 in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Templeton where she attended elementary school and was one of the last graduates of Templeton High School.

On July 20, 1951 Helen Lee was united in marriage with Leslie Earl David. They lived in Gray for about a year then moved to Templeton where they raised their two sons. Helen Lee was a devoted homemaker and also worked for the Templeton Telephone Company as an operator until they switched to dial. She then worked for the Holy Trinity school lunch program for 20+ years.

Helen Lee was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton.  In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, baking and fishing.

After their retirement, Helen Lee and Leslie remained in Templeton. Her husband died in 1996. Eventually Helen Lee moved to Lake View and then Carroll where she resided in for several years before moving to assisted living this past year. When her health continued to decline she transferred to Hawkeye Care Center in Carroll and then Shady Oaks in Lake City. She died rather suddenly at Shady Oaks on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 23 days.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Virgil Hacker, in early childhood, Ed Hacker (Ruth), Maurice Hacker (Mary), Clifford Hacker, Virginia Janning (John ‘Urban’) and Harriett McDonald.

She is survived by her two sons Darrell David (Doreen) of Eddyville, IA and Brian David of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren Derek David of Madison, WI, Lucas David of Columbia, SC, Austin David of Eddyville and Zachery of Columbia, SC; sister in law Anna Mae Hacker of Carroll and brother in law Robert McDonald of Carroll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
