James Cady

August 30, 1914 — January 19, 2013

James Raymond, son of Joe Laverne and Sara Jane (Hupp) Cady, was born August 30, 1914, in Lisbon, North Dakota. When he was five, Jim's family moved to Jameson, Nebraska where he attended country school and his family farmed and raised cattle. In 1933 they took seventeen days to herd their cattle to a farm southwest of Coon Rapids, Iowa. In 1940 his parents moved to Williams, Iowa but Jim and four of his brothers and sisters remained in Coon Rapids. On May 19, 1939, Jim was united in marriage with Mary Frances Monroe at Guthrie Center. One son Larry was born to this union. Jim worked at Robinson's Garage in Coon Rapids before moving to Williams for two years and working at a garage there. He then moved to Guthrie Center where he worked at Hagan Chevrolet, moving back to Coon Rapids in 1950. After Mary died in 1952, Jim and Larry remained in Coon Rapids and Jim worked at Rees Station and 16 years at Hi-Line Chick Co. He operated the garbage route from 1963 to 1971 at which time he sold it to his son Larry. He continued to help Larry until 1989 when his leg was amputated and he retired. Jim was able to remain at home and care for himself after his retirement. He took joy in cooking and baking for his family. They all recall that the food was delicious. Jim is a member of the First Christian Church. As a young boy Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting. He played guitar throughout his life, entertaining family and friends. When he was no longer able to remain at home, Jim entered the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids in 2009. He died on there on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the age of 98 years.4 months and 20 days. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife; six brothers: Boyd, Dale, Haley Buck', Joe Jr.; Don and George Cady; and five sisters: Doris Lumsden, Ellen Clifford, Roseanne Moor; Jeanette Cady and Della Cady. He is survived by his son Larry Cady and wife Sandie of Coon Rapids; three grandchildren Michelle and husband Joe Posada of Coon Rapids; Doug Cady and wife Laurice of Denver, Colorado; Dawn McLaughlin of Coon Rapids; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
