James L Ranniger

March 19, 1949 — April 29, 2016

James Louis Ranniger, son of Wayne and Viola (Henkelman) Ranniger, was born March 19, 1949 at the Foderberg Nursing Home in Manilla, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Sacred Heart Church in Manning.

James was a “special needs” person. In his early years Colene Rowedder taught him to read, write and do simple math. He initially attended “special education” classes in the Manning School system and in August 1977 started day service classes at New Hope Village in Carroll. He learned many crafts and had social interaction with people similar in needs to his own.

After the death of his mother in March 1992, James became a resident of New Hope Village Home in South Manning in September 1993. New Hope was a large part of his life.

Jim was a very loving person. With all his struggles, he never complained or lost his temper. He could put 1000-piece puzzles together, loved to play card games and watch game shows on television. Above all, he enjoyed watching sporting events of all kinds on TV and enjoyed vacations to professional football and baseball as well as college football games. IKM-Manning Wolves, Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox were some of his favorite teams. Jim was blessed with an incredible memory, remembering the birthdays, ages, and anniversaries of all his siblings, their spouses, nieces and nephews and even people who worked and lived with him. He thoroughly enjoyed holidays and birthdays (especially his own) and any other event that included family members.

After struggling with pneumonia and an extended hospitalization stay, Jim’s health continued to decline. He died at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the age of 67 years 1 months and 10 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents and grandparents.

Jim is survived by his siblings Carol (Joe) Lally of Denison; William (Deb) Ranniger of Manning; Gaylin (Jan) Ranniger of Manning and Royce (Kathy) Ranniger of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews; his step mother Lucille Ranniger of Manning; his New Hope Family; other relatives and friends.

As a final gift, James and his family generously and courageously donated his tissue to the Iowa Donor Network.
