Jean D. Pfoltner

Jean Darlene (Ohde) Pfoltner, daughter of George J. and Anna (Georgius) Ohde, was born May 23, 1923 in Carroll County Iowa.  She received her education in the Hayes Township District #7 school near the family farm.  In December 1939 she enrolled in the California School of Beauty Culture in Omaha, NE and received her Cosmetology Certificate on May 23, 1941.  After graduation she worked in Vera Fischer’s beauty shop in Manning, Iowa.

On April 6, 1943 Jean was united in marriage with George F. Pfoltner at the Presbyterian Church in Carroll, Iowa.  When they were first married they farmed east of Manning on a farmstead now known as the Heritage Park and site of the Hausbarn.  In 1945 they purchased and moved to a farm south of Aspinwall.  That same year George was called to duty in the Marines and Jean went to live with her parents in Manning.  After George returned from the service they went back to the farm.  In 1988 George passed away due to cancer.  Jean continued to live on the farm until January 2000.  She then moved to the Willow Creek Apartments in Manning.  In May 2010 she became a resident of the Legacy Terrace Retirement Community in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Jean belonged to the First Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women’s Organization in Manning.  She was also active in the Ladies VFW Auxiliary Post #3517 where she was a member for 58 years.  Jean was devoted to her family.  She enjoyed spending time caring for the yard and flowers on the farm, as well as sewing and reading.

Jean became a resident of Sumner Place Nursing Home, Lincoln, NE in February 2016.  She passed away there on May 27, 2016 at the age of 93 years and 4 days.

Jean is survived by her children: David and wife, Donna, of Sheridan, Illinois; Patricia and  husband, James Dinklage, of Orchard, Nebraska; and Brian and  wife, Mary, of Lincoln, Nebraska; by five grandchildren, Christopher Pfoltner and wife, Sarah, of Knoxville, Iowa; Jennifer and husband, Parham Parastaran, of Champaign, Illinois; Stephanie and husband, Johnny Bendlin, of Dumont,  Iowa; Aaron Dinklage and wife, Stacey, of Ainsworth, Nebraska; and Brittany Pfoltner of Lincoln; by five great-grandchildren, Ella, Alexa, and Leila Parastaran; Lauren and Paige Pfoltner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Viola Martens; brothers Oscar (in infancy), Oliver, Raymond, Melvin, Wesley, and Lester Ohde; sisters-in-law, Mabel, Margaret, Evelyn, Delores, and Ann Ohde; brother-in-law Gilbert Martens.

Jean’s family suggests that memorial donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Ladies VFW Auxiliary Post#3517, both in Manning.
