    Jean Ruth, daughter of Joseph Frank and Fanny Valentine (Paist) Hunkler, was born July 26, 1922, at Manilla, Iowa.  She attended school in Manilla graduating with the Class of 1940. She then worked in Perry doing various jobs.


   On July 20, 1944, Jean was united in marriage with Willard Lee Farley at Perry, Iowa.  Two children were born to this union.  The family lived in Perry, Iowa; Tylor, Texas; Aspinwall, Iowa; Wahoo, Nebraska; Omaha, Nebraska; and Council Bluffs, Iowa, until they settled in Hacienda Heights, California in 1956. Jean was a telephone operator for Northwestern and Southwestern Bell Telephone in Iowa and for GTE in California. In the late 1960’s, she joined the family business, W.L. Farley, Inc., as an owner/bookkeeper.


   Jean was a charter member of the United Methodist Church in Hacienda Heights, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.  She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.  She and Willard enjoyed traveling together to Refrigeration Service Engineering Society events. She was also a very accomplished baker, cake decorator and seamstress. In 2008, Jean and Willard moved to Manning, Iowa, to be near their daughter. Soon after, Willard passed away.


   On Monday, February 18, 2019, Jean passed away at Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla, Iowa.


   Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willard Lee Farley in 2008, a sister Hazel Hope (Walt) Nielsen, and a son-in-law Jack Rogers.


   Jean is survived by her daughter KaeRene Rogers of Manning; son Willard Lee Farley II (Becky) of Dover, Arkansas; Grandchildren: Karen (Terry) Gordon of Harlan; Colleen (John) Burke of California; Jake McWilliam of California; Great-grandchildren: Amber Elwell of Manning; Bret Elwell (Victoria Bailey) of Manning; Skylar, Katlin and Brody Burke of California; Nieces: Carol (Elwin) Maloy of Sheridan, Wyoming; Lorraine (Gary) McCoy of Bellevue, Nebraska; a Nephew Reverend Dale (Ellie) Nielsen of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; other close nieces and nephews: Rob (Cathy) Dammann of Manning; Rick (Sheryl)  Dammann of Manning; Dottie Schultz of Wichita, Kansas; and many other family and friends.
