Jeanette Ann (Gruhn) Meyer, age 97, was welcomed into eternal life on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family in Santa Clarita, California. We give thanks to God for her long, faith-filled life and for the gentle, steady presence she shared with all who knew her.
Born on October 6, 1928, in Manning, Carroll County, Iowa, Jeanette was raised on the family’s century farm established by her father. Growing up among wide fields and a tight-knit rural community, she learned early the values that would define her entire life: faith, humility, gratitude, and unwavering devotion to family. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on November 11, 1928, and later confirmed there on December 30, 1946, publicly affirming the Lutheran faith that remained her foundation throughout her years.
Jeanette attended Farm-town Schools, graduating in 1945. She continued her studies at The American Institute of Business school, completing a Bookkeeping Certificate program in 1946. With a natural aptitude for numbers and organization, she began her career as a bookkeeper in Carroll, Iowa. In time, her path led west to Denver, Colorado, where she worked for Benjamin Moore as a bookkeeper until stepping back to raise her son.
She married the love of her life, Norman H. Meyer, on November 28, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Together they built a life grounded in faith, love, and shared commitment. Their marriage was one of true partnership and quiet devotion, and Jeanette often said that being a wife and mother were her greatest blessings. Their son, Christian H. Meyer, and his family, Candy and Claire Meyer, brought immeasurable joy to their lives.
Throughout her life, Jeanette lived in several places that shaped her journey: • Manning and Carroll, Iowa • Denver, Golden, and Fort Collins, Colorado • And Santa Clarita, California, where she spent her later years.
Jeanette’s faith was expressed not only in worship, but also in service. She volunteered in her churches and at her local hospital, always seeking meaningful ways to help others. She approached life with quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and a deep sense of loyalty. Whether shyly offering encouragement or steadfastly supporting a friend in need, she embodied what it meant to love as Christ loves.
She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, bowling, bible studies, and playing cards and games with friends and family. Jeanette cherished road trips—often visiting relatives or exploring scenic routes through neighboring states—and she loved opportunities for international travel, including memorable trips to Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean. These journeys, both near and far, reflected her curiosity and her appreciation of the beauty of God’s world.
Above all, Jeanette was a woman of faith, a true friend, and a loving mother and grandmother. The lessons she imparted were simple yet profound: keep faith at the center of family life; care deeply for those close to you; and if something is worth doing, do your best.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Harry K. and Wilhelmina (Meggars) Gruhn; siblings: Wilma (Tom) Wolfe, Delton Gruhn, and Marlyn (Chuck) Fielweber; and her beloved husband, Norm Meyer.
She is survived by her son, Chris Meyer, and his wife Candy (Matsumoto) Meyer; granddaughter, Claire Meyer; sisters-in-law: Janet Gruhn and Gladys Meyer; and her nieces, nephews, and their families.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the Manning Cemetery in Manning, Iowa, with Pastor Zachary Staehr officiating. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a cause dear to her heart.
We give thanks for Jeanette’s life—rooted in faith, shaped by love, and enriched by nearly a century of dedication to family, friends, and the Lord. She will be remembered with tenderness and gratitude.
