Joan Mary Eischeid

November 20, 1930 — April 8, 2013

Joan Mary, daughter of Alois C. and Hilaria M. (Thelen) Bernholtz, was born November 20, 1930, at Carroll, Iowa. She attended school at Willey and then did domestic work for Dr. Cochrane, among others. Joan also worked in housekeeping at St. Anthony Hospital for a time. On September 5, 1951, Joan was united in marriage with Linus Eischeid at St. Mary's Church in Willey by Fr. H. J. Dries. They were the parents of seven children and made their home in Halbur. Joan worked at the Holy Trinity school in Halbur from 1977 to 2003. She was a member of St. Augustine's Church in Halbur and, after they moved to Carroll, of Holy Spirit Parish. Joan was active in the Women's Guild as well. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning, and cake decorating, though her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. In 2008 when she began to need more care, Joan moved to the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids. She died there on Monday, April 8, 2013, just one month and one day after her husband passed away. She was 82 years, 4 months and 19 days of age. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Linus Eischeid; sisters Ruth Schmitz and Lois Bernholtz (in infancy); brothers: Bill Bernholtz; Louis Bernholtz (in infancy); brother-in-law Marvin Willenborg; and nephew Kenneth Schmitz.
