John Winnett

Memorial ServiceWednesday, December 6, 20066:00 PM, with visitation from 4:00-6:00 PMOhde Funeral Home, Coon Rapids      John Allen, son of Donald Edwin and Mabel Leona (Loomis) Winnett, was born December 15, 1934, on the farm near Old Carrollton, Iowa. He graduated from Coon Rapids-Bayard High School in 1952.      John worked various jobs until he began work as a signalman for the Milwaukee Railroad in Portage, Wisconsin. He did farm work for Garst upon his return to Coon Rapids in 1967. John then worked in the Road Maintenance department for Carroll County for 25 years before his retirement in 1996.      John was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed golfing. He also loved to search for Native American artifacts.      John entered the Thomas Rest Haven nursing home last winter due to a rare blood disorder. He died there on Saturday night, December 2, 2006, at the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 21 days.       Preceding John in death are his parents and brother Donald Glen Winnett.      John is survived by six children: James Michael Winnett and wife Leslie of Woodward; Mark Winnett and wife Julie of Coon Rapids; Katherine Hart of Coon Rapids and special friend Ken Kirchner; Kristy and husband Mark McDermont of Jamaica; LeeAnn and husband Dennis Pittman of Jamaica; Donald Lee Winnett of Los Angeles, CA; 16 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; sisters Donna Jean and husband Gary Albright of Guthrie Center and Delores Mabel Winnett of Coon Rapids; other relatives and friends.
