June Coder

June 10, 1918 — January 19, 2016

   June Norene, adopted daughter of James and Bessie (McLaughlin) Smith was born June 10, 1918 in Waterloo, Iowa.  She grew up on a farm east of Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School with the Class of 1937. 

   In August of 1938, June was united in marriage to Harold Coder in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  From this union their daughter Norene Sarah was born in 1951. 

   June was a secretary and bookkeeper for Coder Electric for 35 years.  Harold and June spent most of the Eighties living in Bella Vista, Arizona. They returned to Coon Rapids in 1989.  She was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood and a longtime member of the Coon Rapids Red Cross Volunteers. 

   June became a resident at Thomas Rest Haven in 2010. She died there on January 19, 2016 at the age of 97 years, 7 months and 9 days.

   Harold passed away in 1991 while on a fishing trip in northern Ontario, Canada.  June’s daughter, Norene, died in a tragic automobile accident in January, 2005.  Also preceding her in death are her four brothers Lester Smith, Laurence Smith, Eugene Smith and Wellman Smith. 

 
    June is survived by her son-in-law John (Leniece Wu) Thomas Falls Church, VA; grandsons Mark Thomas and wife Claire of Annandale, VA and Charles Thomas of Los Angeles, CA; great granddaughters Phoebe Thomas and Miranda Thomas.
