Kenneth Grage

April 11, 1922 — January 31, 2017

Kenneth Lyle “Uncle Bud”, son of Chris and Ida (Wenzel) Grage, was born April 11, 1922 at home on the farm north of Manilla, IA.  He attended country school through the 8th grade and then graduated from Manilla High School in 1940.

   Uncle Bud worked on the home farm until he retired and moved into Manilla in the spring of 1987.  He also worked as a substitute rural mail carrier for 17 years. Uncle Bud was united in marriage with Doris Hoff on June 9, 1956, at the Lutheran Church in Roland.  Doris passed away in 1961.

  In his spare time, Uncle Bud enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching Chicago Cubs baseball on TV.  His nickname was the “Bass Assassin.”  Uncle Bud loved all animals, especially his cats.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla.  Due to failing health Uncle Bud moved to the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in spring of 2011.  He died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, IA.  Uncle Bud was 94 years, 9 months and 20 days of age.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris Grage in 1961; brothers Edwin, Raymond, Leo, Harold, Floyd and Marvin Grage; and sisters Verna Vehrs and Elenora Macumber.

   Uncle Bud is survived by nieces Vera Vollstedt of Manilla and Beulah Pickerel of St. Louis; nephew Glen Macumber (Chris) of Manilla; many great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
